Following last months announcement from Rishi Sunak, we have had several enquiries regarding installations of Airsource Heatpumps using the Green Home Grants Scheme.

There is currently very little official information regarding this scheme, who will be eligible and if it will be viable for ASHP companies to offer the installation under this scheme. Some questions we do know the answers to however are as follows:

1. How will consumers place an order

Consumers will be directed to the Simple Energy Advice website. This site is undergoing development at this stage, with the aim of having it ready by mid-September. In theory, a consumer will apply on the website, select the measure they are looking for, and be presented with a list of local companies who have been registered with TrustMark (and MCS if for renewable technology).

2. On renewable energy, what is the relationship between the Green Homes Grant and Domestic RHI?

Still to be defined, but early indications are that the Green Homes Grant can be used for insulation OR an air source/ground source heat pump. A consumer will not be able to use the grant on a heat pump if they are also planning to receive domestic RHI payments. We will keep everyone updated on this as it’s an important point. It’s also worth noting that a heat pump cannot be installed unless the home is already of a certain insulation standard. This standard is still being defined.

3. WHo can apply for the grant?

Homeowners (including park homeowners), private and social landlords can apply for grants of up to £5,000. For grants between £5,000 - £10,000, these will only apply to those consumers in certain financial scenarios (a list of applicable benefits is listed on the BEIS website).
